CFTC data for the week ended September 29 show equity fund managers trimming S&P 500 CME net longs to 901,255 while net shorts in 5- and 10-year Treasury futures rose.
Equity fund managers cut their S&P 500 CME net long position by 33,658 contracts to 901,255 in the week ended September 29, while S&P 500 CME net shorts rose by 575 contracts to 355,697, according to CFTC positioning data.
The reduction in S&P 500 net longs was accompanied by a small increase in S&P 500 CME net shorts, which rose by 575 contracts to 355,697. The combined positioning left the net long at 901,255 contracts.
In Treasury futures, speculators increased their CBOT 5-year net short position by 114,848 contracts to 995,701 and their 10-year net short by 88,863 contracts to 900,615. They also added 31,070 contracts to the CBOT US Treasury bond net short, bringing it to 186,875.
The build in intermediate and long-end shorts contrasted with reductions at the front end and the ultra-long end. Speculators trimmed the CBOT 2-year net short by 115,041 contracts to 792,024 and the UltraBond net short by 10,289 contracts to 326,436.
Bitcoin net longs stood at 2,465 contracts.
