French preliminary consumer prices rose 3.0% from a year earlier in September, above a 2.8% forecast and up from 2.4% in the previous reading, according to the preliminary CPI release.
The monthly preliminary index declined 0.3%, reversing a 0.7% increase in the prior reading. Because the annual rate rose while prices fell on the month, the acceleration in the 12-month measure reflects the base of comparison rather than fresh September price gains.
