Australia's annual headline consumer price index rose to 4.0%, up from 3.5% previously and just below a 4.1% forecast.

The trimmed mean annual rate remained at 3.6%, matching the forecast and unchanged from the prior reading, so the underlying measure did not follow the headline series higher.
